100+ years & counting.
1915, Pietro Equi left Coreglia Antelminelli in Tuscany to seek his fortune and got as far as Hamilton, where he started a cafe in 1922.
The rest, as they say, is history…
1915
Pietro Equi arrived in Hamilton at the age of 15.
1922
Pietro Equi opened his own cafe at 6/8 Burnbank Road, and began crafting his beautiful creamy Italian ice cream to warm the hearts of the Scots.
1958
Robert Equi graduated from Glasgow University and joined the family business with his brother Vincent & father Pietro.
1965
As the business continued to grow, Roberto took over and Equi’s moved across the road to 9-11 Burnbank Road knocking two shops into one making room for a new restaurant, takeaway and parlour.
1970
Robert Equi bought some fancy new ice cream equipment to take our production up a notch.
1972
We celebrated our 70th Birthday – Sophie Equi was born and to celebrate we launched Sophie’s Crunch (which is still one of our top flavours – now known as Honeycomb Crunch!)
1984
Equi’s became Winners of the first Scottish National Ice Cream Competition.
1988
David Equi graduated in Business from the University of Edinburgh, and joined the family firm working on new ideas with his dad.
2012
David grew our wholesale business and we reached 250 customers, including Asda!
2018
We secured our biggest retail contract to date with the Co-op! Double Cream Vanilla and Isle of Skye Sea Salt & Caramel listed across the whole of Scotland.
2021
David’s daughter Alex graduated in Business from Glasgow University and joined the family business in sales & marketing.
2022
We moved to our state of the art factory & head office, making our facility 45x the size of our previous factory!
2023
We welcomed HRH The Princess Royal to celebrate our 101st birthday. We made a bespoke Salted Caramel Cookie Dough ice cream for her to trial.
2024
We launched our new iconic branding, reflecting the heart and soul of Equi’s – Italian craft with a Scottish accent
